Coal India Appoints Mukesh Choudhary as Interim HR Director

Coal India Limited (CIL) has appointed Mukesh Choudhary as the interim Director (Human Resources), entrusting him with the additional charge of the role until a regular appointment is made.

Mukesh, who currently serves as Director (Marketing), will oversee the company’s HR function following the completion of the tenure of former Director (HR), Vinay Ranjan.

The appointment ensures continuity in the leadership of Coal India’s human resources function while the process to appoint a full-time HR Director is underway.

Vinay Ranjan completed his tenure on July 27, 2026, after serving as Director (HR) since July 2021.

Extensive Experience

Mukesh Choudhary joined Coal India as Director (Marketing) in December 2022. He brings over two decades of experience in the public sector, with expertise spanning coal production, marketing, logistics, and government administration.

Before joining Coal India, he served as Deputy Director General in the Department of Defence Production under the Ministry of Defence.

He is a 1996-batch Indian Ordnance Factory Services (IOFS) officer and has also worked for more than six years in the Ministry of Coal, where he handled coal production and dispatch matters.

An engineer by qualification, Mukesh holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering along with a Master of Financial Analysis and an MBA. During his career, he has served on the boards of several Coal India subsidiaries and other public sector coal companies.
