After TCS, HCLTech Says No Breach After Employee Data Claim

IT services major HCLTech on Monday said it has found no evidence of a breach of its systems or any impact on client engagements after a hacker group claimed potential exposure of employee data.

The company said its initial investigation indicated that the data may be limited and several years old.
HCLTech Continues Investigation
In an exchange filing, HCLTech said there was no evidence of a breach of its systems or any impact on its engagements with clients.
“There is no evidence of breach to the Company’s systems or engagement with any of the Company’s clients,” the company said.

HCLTech added that it is conducting a further investigation and will report any material findings. The company has not confirmed that the information referred to in the hacker group’s claim came from a recent breach of its systems.
The claim relates to the possible exposure of employee-related information. However, the allegation has not been independently established as a confirmed HCLTech data breach.
Based on its initial assessment, HCLTech said the data in question may be limited and could date back several years.

The HCLTech disclosure came a few hours after Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) issued a similar notification regarding the possible exposure of employee information.
TCS said it had received threat-intelligence alerts alleging the possible exposure of certain employee information. Following its investigation, the company said it found no credible evidence of a breach of its systems or customer environments.
For HR and business teams, the developments underline the need to protect employee information, including older records that may continue to carry privacy and security risks.
At present, neither HCLTech nor TCS has confirmed that its systems or client environments were compromised in these incidents. In both cases, the companies have distinguished between claims of employee data exposure and evidence of a breach of their own systems.
HCLTech said it remains committed to protecting information entrusted to the company and will continue its investigation. The company is expected to report any material findings as the review progresses.
