L&T Wins ₹10,000-15,000 Crore NTPC Power Project, Set to Boost Employment

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from NTPC Limited for the main plant package of the 1,600 MW (2×800 MW) Lara Stage-III Super Thermal Power Project in Chhattisgarh.

The order has been awarded to L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, the company’s energy business, marking another major milestone in India’s power infrastructure expansion.

The formal Notice to Proceed (NTP) will be issued after the project obtains the required environmental clearance and the LNTP period has been completed. L&T has classified the contract as a “mega” order, indicating a project value between ₹10,000 crore and ₹15,000 crore.

Mega Project to Strengthen India’s Power Capacity

The Lara Stage-III project will add 1,600 MW of ultra-supercritical thermal power generation capacity to the national grid. As part of the contract, L&T will be responsible for the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, construction and commissioning of the complete main plant package.

Commenting on the development, the company said, “This prestigious order reaffirms NTPC’s continued trust in L&T’s capabilities to execute large and complex power projects.” The company added that the project will deploy advanced ultra-supercritical technology to improve operational efficiency while supporting India’s growing electricity demand.

The project aligns with the government’s continued focus on strengthening power infrastructure to meet rising industrial and domestic energy requirements.

Employment Opportunities Expected Across Sectors

Apart from expanding power generation capacity, the project is expected to create significant employment opportunities during its execution.

Large engineering projects of this scale typically generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs for engineers, project managers, construction workers, technicians, equipment manufacturers and skilled professionals across the supply chain.

The project is also expected to benefit local businesses in Chhattisgarh through increased demand for civil works, fabrication, transportation, logistics and other support services.
