Lenovo appoints Amar Babu as Motorola Global President

Lenovo has appointed Amar Babu as President of Motorola Mobility and General Manager of its Mobile Business Group, effective January 1, 2027. He will succeed Luca Rossi, who will continue as acting Motorola Global President until the end of December 2026.

Babu is currently Lenovo’s Senior Vice President and President of Asia Pacific (AP). In his new role, he will lead Motorola’s global mobile business, focusing on premium smartphone growth, expanding the intelligent devices ecosystem and strengthening the brand’s market position across key markets, including the US, India and Japan.

He will report to Luca Rossi, Executive Vice President of Lenovo and President of its Intelligent Devices Group. During the transition period, Babu will continue to serve as President of Asia Pacific while working with Motorola’s leadership team.

Experience at Lenovo

Babu joined Lenovo in 2007 and has held several leadership positions across business management, operations, services and market leadership.

Over the past five-plus years under his leadership, Lenovo’s Asia Pacific business has developed into a key growth engine for the company. The region maintained its No. 1 position in PCs, while Motorola expanded its presence in the mobile market.

Motorola has reached nearly 9% market share in India and become the second-largest smartphone original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in Japan, according to Lenovo.

Before joining Lenovo, Babu worked with Intel, HCL and Citibank in various management, operational and technical roles.

Commenting on the appointment, Luca Rossi said Babu had delivered consistent results and would bring extensive experience in sales, operations, partner and customer relationships, and business management to Motorola’s global operations.
