upGrad Elevates Koell Hemdev as General Counsel & CHRO

upGrad, Asia’s largest integrated skilling and workforce development company, has elevated Koell Hemdev to General Counsel & Chief Human Resources Officer, expanding her responsibilities to include both the legal and people functions.

In her expanded role, Koell will lead upGrad’s legal and HR functions. She will also work on an initiative aimed at building a stronger community for the company’s alumni and prospective learners.

Extensive Experience

Koell joined upGrad in 2017 and has led its legal function for the past nine years. During this period, she built the legal function and supported the company through multiple stages of business growth and expansion.

With her elevation, she will take on the HR charter alongside her existing responsibilities as General Counsel. The combined mandate will bring the company’s legal, governance, people and culture functions under her leadership.

Commenting on her expanded role, Koell said that the move will help bring people and governance priorities together as the company enters its next phase. She said her focus will be on strengthening people, culture and governance foundations while building a stronger community of alumni and prospective learners.

Before joining upGrad, Koell worked as a Legal Associate at Mehta & Padamsey and began her legal career as a Legal Trainee with GlaxoSmithKline.

Her new responsibilities will include overseeing the organisation’s people agenda alongside legal and governance matters.

The role will also involve supporting the company’s workforce and culture as it continues to develop its skilling and workforce development business.
