Hindustan Zinc Appoints Amarendu Prakash as CEO-Designate

Hindustan Zinc has announced the appointment of Amarendu Prakash as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO)-Designate, effective June 19, 2026.

The appointment was approved by the company’s Board of Directors at its meeting held on June 19, based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

Extensive Experience

Amarendu brings over 34 years of leadership experience in the metals and mining sector, with deep expertise in operations, project execution, business transformation, technology, and strategic management.

He joins Hindustan Zinc after serving as Chairman of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), where he led several key initiatives focused on capacity expansion, operational excellence, digital transformation, and sustainability.

During his long and distinguished career at SAIL, Amarendu held a range of senior leadership roles. Before becoming Chairman in 2023, he served as Director (In-Charge) of Bokaro and Rourkela Steel Plants, overseeing operations and profit-and-loss responsibilities for 9.2 million tonnes of steel-making capacity.

Earlier, as Chief Business Advisor to the Chairman, he played a pivotal role in SAIL’s business transformation and financial turnaround, helping drive significant growth in revenue, profitability, and production performance.

Amarendu began his career with SAIL in 1991 as a Management Trainee (Technical) and steadily rose through the ranks, gaining extensive experience across plant operations, production planning, sales coordination, and manufacturing leadership.

A Metallurgical Engineering graduate from BIT Sindri, Prakash has also completed a management program in Business Administration from XLRI Jamshedpur.

The appointment comes as Hindustan Zinc seeks to further strengthen its leadership team and accelerate its next phase of growth, innovation, sustainability, and value creation.
